To view Hibernia`s new Northern Ireland network, please click here: http:// About Hibernia Atlantic:Hibernia Atlantic is the only privately held, diverse TransAtlantic submarinecable transport provider. Hibernia is a US, wholly-owned subsidiary of ColumbiaVentures Corporation (CVC). Over the next month, Cyclone will run its WHE for a minimum of several hundredhours under the load of an electric alternator. The company then plans tobreak-down the engine to study the effects of long term operation on parts andcomponents prior to installation at its initial beta site.
“We believe we can debug any remaining mechanical issues in this test period andprepare our engine system for commercial operation,” stated Allan Brown,Cyclone`s senior engineer on the WHE project. “While there`s more work to bedone, we`ve made great progress in a short period of time.” The WHE is a self-starting steam engine capable of producing up to 18HP (10kW ofelectricity) from low to medium-temperature waste heat sources such asindustrial furnaces, commercial ovens and even solar thermal collectors. The WHE is also the power source for the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot(EATR), a Phase II SBIR project sponsored by the Defense Advanced ResearchProjects Agency (DARPA), Defense Sciences Office. The EATR was recently coveredon Fox News, CNET News, Popular Science and Wired. CORPORATE PROFILECyclone Power Technologies is the developer of the award-winning Cyclone Engine- an eco-friendly external combustion engine with the power and versatility torun everything from portable electric generators and garden equipment to cars, trucks and locomotives. Invented by company founder and CEO Harry Schoell, thepatented Cyclone Engine is a modern day steam engine, ingeniously designed toachieve high thermal efficiencies through a compact heat-regenerative process, and to run on virtually any fuel – including bio-diesels, syngas or solar -while emitting fewer greenhouse gases and irritating pollutants into the air.Currently in its late stages of development, the Cyclone Engine was recognizedby Popular Science Magazine as the Invention of the Year for 2008, and waspresented with the Society of Automotive Engineers` AEI Tech Award in 2006 and2008.
This buildmarks another key milestone in Hibernia Atlantic`s history, as thecommunications company is the first to deploy a cable from North America to thisregion. Hibernia will also complete a cross-border build linking its existingcommunications network into the Northwest of Ireland, thereby reducingtransAtlantic data latency and reducing the cost of internationalcommunications. The new cable will linkArmagh, Ballymena, Belfast, Coleraine, Londonderry, Omagh, Portadown andStrabane to Europe and North America. In addition, the cable will also providelinks to Letterkenny, Castleblayney, Dundalk, Drogheda and Monaghan. “It is important that the potential investment for the city through thetelehouse and the cable itself is recognised. This is a normal part ofthe contract variation process and the proposal will be subject to approval byboth departments.” Notes to Editors: Project Kelvin is a joint ?30 million initiative between DETI and DCENR and ispartly funded through the EC INTERREG IVA programme. Werecognise that Fort George is one of the key locations within the city`sregeneration plan as it looks to future growth and prosperity.
